'Minecraft' Adds an Add-on Shop for Mobiles

For many, the most significant limitation of Minecraft's Pocket and Windows 10 Editions has been the lack of community material. What's the point of playing Minecraft on your smartphone if you can't try out that sweet new texture pack you spotted on your PC? This is your chance to try it. Mojang and Microsoft have launched the Marketplace that lets Pocket and Windows 10 gamers to download content from community creators. This includes skins, textures, and entire worlds. You don't buy any paid content directly -- instead, you pay "Minecraft Coins" which let you buy the add-ons you want. It's supposed to help developers establish "flexible prices," although it also can disguise the worth of what you're buying. It's possible that you don't want your children be able to access the internet.

The Marketplace only permits creators with registered businesses, which means it's not going to allow your project that's just for fun. However, those who join receive a 70 percent share of the profits, much like traditional mobile app stores. Although they may not make as much selling directly, a seller who is successful will still earn lots of money.

The Marketplace will initially be restricted to access. The beta version of the Marketplace will be made available to the general public in mid-April. There will be no creator content, since it will be waiting until the official launch in spring. This will still bridge the gap between your Minecraft experiences on mobile devices and those on your PC.
